Hi,
I've recently had my engine serviced, and it's been running beautifully. However I've started to get a noise from the front of the engine. My local garage identified it as a worn crankshaft pulley (CS). I have tried to get one of these, but cannot find one directly online.
In answer to my query, someone said 'This is quite an unusual part to need to be replaced', which has raised the concern that the garage might be wrong.
The garage said that the belt appears to be rubbing unevenly on the bottom pulley; the bolt is tight and the fanbelt is correctly adjusted.
I'm willing to go back to them if this is unlikely.
This link is to a sound recording from under the driver door, at idle, and when hot. When it's cold, this noise doesn't occur.

I'd very much appreciate any advice (and a pointer to a place to get a crankshaft pulley if it seems appropriate).
Thanks for your attention.

Re: V6 Petrol : Noise from belt/pulleys
There are two belts do you know which one is rubbing ?

One is for the air con alone, the other does waterpump, alternator & power steering.

Re: V6 Petrol : Noise from belt/pulleys
Im not familiar with the V6 but is it a solid pulley or dual mass/dampened pulley?
It would be an unusual thing to have to replace if its a solid pulley but not if its a dampened type, these wear over time & the 2 half's can start to separate.

Hi,
My airco belt has been taken off after the bearings on the compressor went (and I didn't use it anyway). So it's just the one belt.
I haven't been able to find ANY details on the pulley itself - but I have seen references to dampened ones (but I thought that was just TD?).
I haven't got in-close with the (indicated) offender yet.
Thx

Re: V6 Petrol : Noise from belt/pulleys
I think the pulley looks like a solid one either belts on its way out or a bearings drying out perhaps
Re: V6 Petrol : Noise from belt/pulleys
Your best bet is to have the pulley removed and inspected along with the shaft , if needed it is possible to have the pulley repaired .
Re: V6 Petrol : Noise from belt/pulleys
A follow up for this.
After the feedback, I took the van back to my local garage, because I wasn't convinced.
Turns out that that noise is a good recording of a water-pump going!
It wasn't the pulley (but, to be fair, that was from a cursory examination).
I'm much happier now, knowing what the problem is. To be fixed shortly.
Regards

Sound.
Feedback is really useful, too.
