"the problem is the engine is not getting to operating temperature when it should"
I'd put this possibility in writing to the dealer.
Allan's closed. We recommend PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services in Plymouth.

Thanks all. I have gone back to him and he's adamant, I will take it to my friend's garage and see if he can diagnose the issue then at least I know for sure. Thanks everyone :)

UPDATE**

Today I drove a few miles and my temp gauge started working and my heating was blowing hot air out, result! However, the 'drive' felt different and possibly a bit juddery? I made a few more trips and all was working though still juddery (though Im so paranoid I may be imagining it) and then just as I was at home the gauge dropped again? Checked coolant and still full.

Obviously, an issue there still, wonder if there had been a blockage or airlock? A loose connection? But why the juddering??

Auto electrician is coming tomorrow and told him my concerns and he said he would sort it out. I also have it booked into a friends garage next week to have it all checked out again.

Thoughts welcome, and thank you all so much for helping me!

Another concern that may be related is that when on the motorway if travelling say over 45 mph it doesn't seem to change gear, I feel the engine needs to as has high revs, I ease off the accelerator and try and get the revs down to 2,000 then it sits at about 55mph but it still feels like the engine wants to change up a gear. How many gears are they? If I am doing 55-60mph what revs should it be at? Darent go any faster for fuel reasons. My feeling is this, the temp gauge and the heaters are all related.

There are 4 gear ratios and then also Torque Converter lockup, which is not to be confused with another gear, merely the TC being taken out of the system when in 3/4 gear and above a given speed.

Gear Ratios
(mph/2000rpm) for each
gear.
1st – 11.2MPH
2nd – 20.4MPH
3rd – 32.0MPH
4th – 50.3MPH
