Leisure battery

Post by Whatwouldgordondo » Thu Oct 29, 2020 12:11 pm

Hi all

We currently have the smallest lead acid 75AH leisure battery fitted and need at least 110AH battery as eventually we will be having a diesel heater fitted but all of the 110AH batteries I have found are too big for the tray I have fitted, they are either too tall so hit the bonnet or too long so overhang the tray.

What does everyone else have?

Doeseveryone else have theirs overhang the tray or get a longer tray fitted?

Don't be tempted to overhang the tray, I've seen in the past a battery split its case where this was done, the edge over time wore away at the case and eventually split the casing with a right old resultant mess with Sulphuric Acid covering all the bonnet internals not good!
If you can't fit a new tray (see https://www.newdawnconversions.co.uk/pr ... ttery-tray ) then you could try packing the bottom but this then raises the height and also means there isn't an edge to stop the battery sliding meaning you need to be very tight with the clamps.

I found a nice 100AH which went in a treat with the correct terminal placement

Tayna Batteries are a pretty good supplier.

My battery tray is the same as the new dawn conversion tray so if I cut off the lip on the end or raise the battery up with a nice piece of ply wood is it OK to overhang the end of the tray?

Yes provided you can clamp it down OK, surprised the tray doesn't take a EXV115R from Tayna ? https://www.tayna.co.uk/leisure-batteri ... e/exv115r/

Length 325 mm
Width 172 mm
Height inc. terms 220 mm

There are 2 tray sizes commonly fitted that I've seen over the years, get the large one if needed, a loose or badly fitted battery will cost you when it welds itself to the underside of your bonet.
