I KNOW i should have done this firstly but didn't  I removed fuel filter and about an egg cup full came out when i tipped it upside down not when i undone it i have changed numerous fuel filters and always got covered in fuel but none came out i even put a bowl under just in case. I have finished the build and timing done starts no problem runs smooth then lumpy then stops re starts fine then stops in my opinion it sure does sound like fuel starvation . So i wonder if this could be a contribution to my running problems i sure hope so but will feel a dummy.

Well new fuel filter fitted and changed injectors i even put a direct feed of fuel to the pump by bypassing the filter its running better but still loud diesel knock on top end when rev'd and smokes sometimes grey sometimes blue sometime mixed but it smells of diesel l i haven't set the dial gauge up yet to time the pump but i have moved the pump all the way one way then the other and set it at the best running position by ear it does seem like a fuel problem or cam timing but i can set it TDC or 10 degrees before that makes no difference.
Going to remove the pump and check i haven't set it wrong and missed the woodruff key depending on this weather who knows very:?

Never noticed them, just a thought it might be worth blanking of egr just to see if it makes any difference also if wastegate is moving freely just in case it’s stuck open

Ok guys i have changed the injection pump 4 injectors and pipes now running 100% better but starts to not run 100% when warm a bit lumpy and a slight hesitation when increasing revs i think i now need to fine tune and re check tappets i am also going to check the fuel tank it runs a lot better with a seperate fuel feed as i think the engine is asking for more fuel than its getting thanks again for all your help cheers
