Woes from the dashboard
After replacing the clock face / dash, suspension, exhaust and prop shaft ....
The dash is still a mess. The Hold light is flashing, rev counter is erratic as anything and now I have discovered the speedo is 'working', but is wildly out (by between 5mp and 10mph depending on speed)
Transmission is also proving a little haphazard, especially when going uphill. Am I right in thinking this may be connected to the speedo / Hold / Rev counter issues?
Local garage (who know Bongos very well) have referred me to a local Auto Gearbox specialist, so Belinda is off there tomorrow.
What might they find? I really hope that the gearbox and transmission aren't completely burgered

Re: Woes from the dashboard
There are so many differing problems all of which could affect the overall drive its impossible to say remotely what is causing the problem. But I would start with the sensors as if you feed duff info to the ECU then both the engine and gearbox will not know what to do!
Re: Woes from the dashboard
Reckon Geoff is right there. Dash is probably getting false info on most things although the speedo doesn't sound too bad.
Re: Woes from the dashboard
Good news is that gearbox is 'fine' on the whole.
As you people suggested, I need a new throttle position sensor to start with, which sounds easy enough.
As for the Rev counter and speedo - wait and see if the new sensor helps. I think I should also try to check if the wiring is chipped somewhere in the dash. Fun times. Now the whole family is off in Green Bongo #1 to collect Green Bongo #2 from the garage. They probably think we're nuts

Re: Woes from the dashboard
The speedo in Japan is in KM. if the importer has stuck an MPH face over it, the needle is likely to be inaccurate.
2002 Friendee 2.0 ltr Petrol.
Re: Woes from the dashboard
It had a new dash clock fitted (which had the mph on it already), the speedo is not consistently out either so I don’t think it’s that. The kmh readings don’t add up either
QQ about this throttle position sensor - is this a standard part that is available new, or do I need to source it from the usual Bongo part places?

Re: Woes from the dashboard
and the saga continues ...
had the new TPS fitted eventually (alongside some welding), picked her up this morning, looked ok for about a minute, then the Rev counter went crazy again, the Hold light came on and the speedo is still wildly 'out' (not consistently either, sadly! If it was a case of 'add 5 miles' I could live with it) called garage up again, she'll be back in next week.
We've already replaced the dash clock, she's had a specialist auto gearbox centre check stuff out as well.
Plus side, welding looks great and the new TPS has definitely made gear changes a lot better

Appreciate the update, you'll get there.

I just want to get on with it and get driving

Re: Woes from the dashboard
Have you checked the two sensors for the rotation speeds, odometer one is at rear of gearbox and the other is for revs, if either fail or have problems then the ECU can't work out the gears hence the flashing hold light indicating ECU error.
Re: Woes from the dashboard
not checked them myself, but I had hoped / prayed that the garage would check the easy options first
I suspect it's probably something really stupid / simple that has a knock-on effect on everything else
I will have a look around this weekend

Re: Woes from the dashboard
Unless I've missed it I can't see where you have told us the engine type? The RPM sensor varies by engine type details on the parts diagrams here http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2, select your year then choose and under electricals for diesel its the Generator, Pulse, or for the V6 its the Crank position sensor, on the 2l petrol it comes from the Distributor I believe.
