AFT Help! Roof out of position

Post by Mark_McKenzie » Tue Oct 19, 2021 3:13 pm

Hi All,

1st post on here and a new bongo owner :D

I’m currently stuck between a roof and a hard place #-o

Got the roof wedged open from the outside rear to remove the motors as they were seized, got them working again and now on to the replacement, the problem is, the roof had jutted forward 10-15mm so that the bolts for the rear hinge bracket were now out of place.

As the force of the strut is wanting to push the roof forward, how would you suggest I get the roof back in place so that I can attach the bolts and secure the hinge in place.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Cheers,

Mark

Yes. A known problem! Not sure I recall what the solution was, but might be worth trying to use a ratchet strap around the studs or hinges to pull the entire roof back into alignment, but you will need something sturdy behind the vehicle to take the strap around and pull against, maybe another vehicle backed in close ?

Update:

Managed to compress the struts with ratchet straps and locate the roof back in position. Thanks for your help!
