Hi everyone.

I thought I'd post a quick update on our trip following your suggestions.

In the end we opted for a round trip over 4 weeks. We arrived at the Hook of Holland and then travelled to:

Kassel-Germany
Bamberg-Germany
Karlovy Vary-Czech Republic
Cesky Krumlov-Czech Republic
Vienna-Austria
Bratislava-Slovakia (day trip from Austria)
Gratz-Austria (day trip)
Lake Bled-Slovenia
Skocjan Caves-Slovenia
Sistiana-Italy
Lake Como-Italy
Lucerne-Switzerland
Strasbourg-France
Luxembourg City-(day trip)
Roche-en-Ardennes-Belgium
Ghent-Belgium
Dordrecht-Netherlands (day trip)
The Hague (Netherlands)

2968 miles in total including travel in the Uk to get abroad. Our Bongo is 20 years old so we were really pleased she ran like clockwork all round. We mostly stayed on campsites and at motorhome stops but we would wild camp if we ever did a longer trip.

We loved sightseeing around the cities but we realised that what we love most about being in our Bongo is being outdoors. We plan to go abroad again but perhaps just tour around one country and stick to countryside and hiking places. That said, we didn't mind driving around cities and found European roads much better than in the UK. The only downside was having an Italian Lady pull out on us!!!!!!!

Everyone keeps asking for our highlights. It was all highlights. My mum asked if we felt ready to come home after a month. We definitely didn't, I could travel like that for months and will do one day)!!!! However, I would say that if you've never been to Bratislava or Ghent they are well worth a look. Very pretty cities and vibrant cities. Both have excellent beer scenes which, frankly what we look for :)

Thanks for your top tips, I think we used them all. We found loads of useful information on these forums.

(I have nearly a1000 pics but it seems they are too big to post here. If anyone knows a way round that let me know)

Glad to hear it went well for you.

Photos are becoming a problem now that Photobucket want to charge people. If you have a paid Photobucket account you could just upload to there and paste a link here to the album. Otherwise I think uploading to Flickr and posting an album link is about your only option.

If your trip to Bratislava was the boat-trip they run from Vienna, I'm interested to learn how that bit went - research for next year

Yes we did the boat trip there from Vienna and got the train home. The boat was lovely going out but the train is a third of the price and makes sense in the dark on way back (more times).
Bratislava is small but we loved it. Very pretty and despite being a wine place had lots of great beer. The tourist office will only mention the old town. We found the modern bit quite lively.
Apparently Budapest is worth a day trip but it's a longer day so we're flying out in December (it was too much for our trip). If you have time it looks worth doing. I'll let you know.

Totally forgot I said I'd share a link to some pics after my attempts to upload here failed. These are mostly holiday snaps but if you want to see what some of the places on this tour looked like then a link is here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmc4PZ1C

Some interesting looking places there, well done.

On one of the most recent shots, is that the famed schweinshaxe you're tucking into?

I'm sure it's deliberate but Becks seems to be sporting a nice pair of antlers and a curious water-fountain in some of the shots

I'm a bit late on this Paul but yes.
I was trying to get various things coming out of her head on the trip as a friend dared me to keep it up for a month but after a lot of frowny faces I ditched my attempts

Spent a night wild camping in the Bongo a couple of weeks ago and my daughter stated she could not see how people could function for long periods of time in such a small van, wonder how we will get on in July for 2 weeks travelling in the Loire #-o
