Bra on or Bra off.....lets talk about Bras

Post by bongomike » Sun Sep 04, 2011 11:41 am

I have been looking at maybe fitting a bonnet bra as some of the roads here are a bit loose. thought it may help to protect the bonnet a bit

Has anyone got one fitted? I have seen some on ebay from VAN-X are they any good?

cheers

Haydn, that was quick =D>

I was probably only going to use it for when we travel long distances, hoping to save a few stone chips.

I've had mine for a couple of years now. It goes on the van at the beginning of the summer and comes off at the end.

My old car looked like it had been used for target practice after driving round here when the roads were resurfaced, not wanting the same for the van I got the bra.

No damage to the paintwork whatsoever if your careful, wash the bonnet and dry it, put down a couple of layers of a good wax polish then put the bra on, job jobbed.

When it comes time to take it out, just check under the front lip to make sure there is no damage as this is the where any water would get trapped when it rains

I give the van a good wash and polish just to protect it through the winter :)

Hope this helps

Not tried a bonnet bra yet but we use to have a similar thing on the motorbikes a leather tank harness to attach a tank bag too.

Just use to make sure the tank was clean and waxed before putting it on some use to put a lair of cling film on the tank too.

but mine lived in place on the tank for 5 years and when removed the tank was like new.

The first time i heard of bonnet bra's damaging the paintwork on a bongo was on a black example... Black shows up any minor flaws, and perhaps the bra was fitted to an already dirty bonnet... Any movement in the bra stretched over a dirty, gritty bonnet will certainly cause some scuffing i would have thought... Scott sounds like he's got it right with the prep work with bonnet bra fitting :D

No problem with the Van-x bonnet bra on mine..... properly waxed with Carnuba wax and Carnuba wax products like Showroom shine, no worries...... I take mine off every 3 weeks or so when I give Bongo a thorough going over, checking it out for defects (the bra that is)....

I would not buy anything from vanx I helped him get those bra's sorted out then he went back on our arrangement, I did finally manage to get hold of one of these bra's they but they rip ithe corns and let loads of water gather in the bottom.
Bongo now work later !!! :) :)

I have a compressor and spray gun, and it is easy to get a really good finish. I found myself thinking, the other day (I dont do that a lot as it makes my head throb  ) that whipping off the bonnet and giving it a respray ought to be be easy peezy, should I care to.

I think you can buy that in cans too, suitable for spraying

Actually, what about spraying it in Dinitrol - now that would be novel   8)
