Chrome mirror covers - any tips for removal?
Just bought a pair of complete wing mirrors with chrome covers attached and would like to remove the covers without damaging anything. I understand they are usually fixed with sticky strips, so was wondering if anyone either knew where they are likely to be stuck or have any other hints and tips. Many thanks.

Warm the backs up with a hairdryer to make the adhesive tacky and then the should come off with out to much of a fight, then throw them nasty chrome covers in my bin

Well, yes that would be the simple option . I plan to sell the new pair of mirrors (minus the shiny bits) as the ones on the current van are colour coded but have some scratches which the chrome covers will resolve. A pair of bog standard mirrors will be more use to other folk than pale minty ones with marked paintwork.daveblueozzie wrote:Why not just fit the new chromed mirrors ?

Use a hairdryer to heat up the cover to soften the adhesive. Then it's gonna take some brute force to separate them.

when i removed mine they had 3 or 4 strips of 20mm double sided tape of them across the windward face only, but it was full length of the mirror.
just pull evenly/gently from the top edge, and use all your fingers across the top edge to pull (well most of them, keep some crossed while you do it)

All of the above is great advise but just be sure once they're off to chuck the nasty things in MY bin
