Alloy wheels in Silent Silver??

Post by Driver+Passengers » Thu Jun 04, 2015 9:11 pm

Getting arches sills and arches resprayed shortly, and windows tinted.

A mate is trying to convince me that my alloys need attention (he's not entirely wrong...) but he insists I should get them powder coated and colour matched to the van.

I trust his judgment on just about everything possible when it comes to vehicles, but I'm yet to be convinced. The valeter today reckoned that'd be going to dark and that alloys should be kept lighter.

Anyone done this? Can anybody say "yay" or "nay"?

Cheers,
Matt.

When I had my wheels powder coated I ended up going slightly darker as it had a bigger metallic flake than the really bright silver colour. They look ok although can seem a bit dark when they're really dusty.

Hi D& P
Go with what you fancy, and you'll always be pleased...paint them to match the van , and it will always look like some cheapskate got a bargain on a batch of cheap paint and painted everything in it . See a van painted all the same colour, and people will look to see if there are any brush-marks!!!    Trust me...all the same colour is very "Del-Boy"
Good Luck
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

"Naff" was the word I had in mind...

He's totally convinced though - he's restoring a pair of Merc 190s just now, generally sound advise but the colour matched wheel thing is confusing me - I think I'm with you, Helen!

Simon - looks good! The silver on your van - that's not the Silent Silver, is it? Yours is paler/brighter, no?

Valeter said if you do nothing else to your van, take a bucket and sponge round the wheels once a week and they'll stay tidy.

For a mainly dark coloured car i would always go with a lighter coloured wheel unless its all black, then a bronze look can be quite good. If its a light colour car you can get away with blacks or a gunmetal.

Mine has dark alloys fitted (black) not by design but by accident really.

It's not silent silver (I can't recall the name) and it is a lighter colour, but the wheels are now darker than standard. Silent silver for the wheels may be a bit dark but I'm not a fan of very dark or or black anyway.

I'm not against any shade - there's some stunning ones done in anthracite or gunmetal grey...

It's the "colour match" thing I'm not yet convinced of... with the gray roof, black body, silent silver skirt and random silver alloys, it's a 4-tone monochrome van. The idea is to tie the wheels into the bottom silver and reduce the colour pallete down to three.

I'm sure it'd look fine - I'm just not seeing it, yet...

It's a matter of taste and your mate has bad taste....well, I'm just mucking about really but it's clear you don't like the idea and thus wouldn't like the wheels if done to match. It wouldn't be much consolation if your mate said they looked good if you didn't like them so I'd stick with what you think will be good...even to the point where others may disagree.
A car round our way has all four alloys all different colour - red, green, blue and yellow I think. It looks bad to me and to most but I guess he likes it and that's the point.

I'm going to go for it... booked in for tints next week, body work in July and wheels either before or after that.
