Alloy wheel center caps - pain to find?

Post by Driver+Passengers » Thu Jun 11, 2015 8:37 pm

Picked up a right scruffy pair of alloys today - basically just so the van isn't sitting on stands while I get my own wheels refurb'd. (I'd be charged extra to store the van vs just taking the wheels down - and I can scrap the spare wheels afterwards and get most of the cost back). But semi-considering having a winter set and a summer set of wheels - so might get both sets done...

The center caps on my own wheels are "okay" - but could do with a new set, esp. if I'm going to go to the bother of getting them colour matched. And the spare set of wheels would need new center caps too.

I don't really know where to start... my own are 151mm, center bore in wheel is just under 60mm. The others will be a mm or two smaller in diameter, bore still to check. I've tried ebay, aliexpress and general googling, but I'm not having an awful lot of luck - lots of Audi and BMW stuff.

Any hints or tips on how to find what I'm looking for?

Cheers,
Matt.

They're much larger - covering the wheels nuts as well - more like these, but have to be the right size...

I think it's a case of finding out what other vehicle uses the size I want as standard and replacing the center emblem but I'm stuggling. :?

Hi
Depending on what wheels you have, I carved a centre cap from hard balsa, sanded, sealed, waxed and moulded, and made fibreglass covers which fitted over the whole centre...

I had the same problem Matt. I ended up using branston pickle lids sprayed up and with mazda stick on logos. That was about 6 years ago and they are still there, but starting to rust. I decided (in Scottish tradition) to keep my nuts exposed, so replaced with shiny new ones. :D

Hope you find what you are looking for

All the best

David.

If you do track down something suitable, you can get some stick on Mazda badges. I had a set of alloys with rubbish badges which I replaced with these which only cost about £4 from China.

I started to chuckle at the idea of beer cans but fell into fits of laughter at the news of branston pickle lids. Only in Bongoland folks - the home of cool   =D> =D>
