Suspected 12v Water Pump Issue

Post by GazOwen » Tue Sep 29, 2020 12:42 am

Hi all
Newbie here with little clue of water or electrics #-o
Loving Bongo life and prepared to live with the issues of a 23 year old van
We have the Montegue Side conversion with a Reich tap and 12v submersible water pump
Changed the water at the weekend and the tap stopped working
On investigating, the tap still ‘clicks’, I assume this is the micro switch working but the water pump makes no noise
Looking at a few YouTube video’s the water pump should whirr when you turn the tap on right?
I’m suspecting this is the issue and will replace it
Just wanted peoples thoughts
Any help is appreciated in advance

Exactly the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Mine was a New Dawn conversion. Pump clicked but no whirring noise. Ordered and replaced the pump (5 minute job) and all was well.

Yup mine's done that in the past, a tiny stick, possibly from a tree when filling, had got in and jammed the pump.

Must be a virus or something. Mine too has recently packed up. My van has a full side conversion and the tank is buried at the bottom of the unit only accessible through the little door where the gas bottle lives at the back. I think when it was fitted the tank was the first thing in, then the rest of the unit was built around it. A few things got broken getting it all out but when it all goes back in I'll make sure it's easier to remove and service in future. These submersible pumps are not built to last forever so it's normal to have to replace them after a few years use. For reference my pump is a Comet, elegant, submersible, about £14 so not a lifetime part.

Yep, depends on the converter, and it should be simple.

I looked at one for a Club member a while back, couldn't find a sensible way of accessing it so suggested an e mail to the converter.

Answer was, 'Drop it in, it's a 4 hour job'.
