Lake District

Post by valley boy » Tue May 31, 2011 11:11 am

I am going to go to the Lake District the middle week of June I have been before and stopped at Park Copice about 6 years ago. I am looking for a site somthing similar on the side of a lake but smaller and with a pub nearby any sugestions please as my partener has never been to the Lake District before and prefers the smaller sites.

Depends - are you in a tent or sleeping in the Bongo with an awning etc, some sites (like Hill of Oaks) aren't licensed for tents and some, like Low Wray campsite, make you effectively camp in the carpark in a campervan or you can pitch a tent nowhere near your van :?

I'd recommend Hill of Oaks then - http://www.hillofoaks.co.uk/ although there isn't a pub nearby.

Sykeside ( http://www.sykeside.co.uk/ ) is next to the Brotherswater Inn and conveniently close to Brotherswater, a nice site in Patterdale

I have stayed at The Quiet site on the side of Ullswater a couple of times and it is really nice, proper country pub on site and a little shop, spotlessly clean and worth a visit. Has been a couple of years since i stayed though.

We stay at a lovely family run campsite in Keswick called Castlerigg farm, it is clean and friendly with a nice pub a stones throw away.

We stayed here last August http://www.churchstile.com/homepage.htm and recommend it, there are 2 nice pubs in the village (walking distance) and you can walk to the shore of Wastwater as well.
