Campsite prices

Hi

Just had a quick one night trip to the Red Squirrel in Glencoe. We love this site for its location and the fact you can have campfires.

Had a sad revalation while we were there though. We have two kids 5 & 7, at the moment this site costs us £21 (£9.50 per adult & £1 per child) however when our two are both over 12 this site will cost us £38 per night. As much as I love the site not prepared to pay that for a nights camping.

Some campsites are starting to take the peeee price wise.

We liked the look of this site on our way back from the Hebrides last summer but couldn't justify the cost. Shame, it looks lovely

I've noticed this over the last few years
With 2 kids and the misses we expect to pay over £30 a night with caravan / awning and electric
Maybe £15-20 for a farmers field site
This camping lark is very popular now and becoming a rich mans game

We had two campsite experiences plus a wild camp, (if you can call parked up outside somebodies house wild!)

Both sites were about £20 with power, Ullapool, (freezing in the North wind), and Glenmore, (outstanding toilets & showers).
We got pensioners discount at Glenmore from very nice staff.

At one place another camper was moaning about the prices then told me the New Forest was £35 with no facilities.

No wonder wild camping is on the increase if families are being charged so much.

Does anybody know if a register of farms offering cheap basic pitches?

At £12.00 a night with a hook up with kids or no kids Allithwaite has got to come into that category. But this is not even a campsite but a village playing field using the village hall facilities, all the better for having absolutely no commercialisation. Bookings through club member Pixie and the Moon who live just around the corner. Even cheaper without a hook up. The only problem is that there never seems to be enough hook ups to go round.

£32.50 they wanted to charge us at Glenmore last week ,a short drive later we got 2 nights for that price at Glen Brittle on Skye
with some change left for the shower

Love Glen Brittle, hoping to get up there this weekend if the weather is obliging.

I used to go to Glenbrittle quite often in my tent camping days. Perfect for bagging the southern section of the Cuillins but the midges could be very bad. After spending a day up in the mountains we could not scoff our dinner fast enough before heading to the pub at Carboost. Usually returning quite stoned, it still surprises me how we managed to bet back to the campsite in one piece along this tortuous single track road with big drops in some of the places.

Hi Tony, yes we're booked for Dent, I look forward to meeting June.

We've not made it to Glenbrittle yet as we're waiting to see what the weather's going to do, also thinking we might try Clachtoll Beach Campsite in Asynt or just go back to Big Sand in Gairloch. Can't make our minds up.
