Hi replaced fuel filter now won't stay due to no fuel, can't find a primer pump, manual says its on to of the filter but clearly isn't there on my Bongo. N reg 2.5 diesel automatic, any help would be greatly appreciated

I don't have a primer on mine either. It can take a long time cranking before it starts. Longer than you think... Maybe a minute or more in three or four goes.

Some crack an injector pipe - I don't know if this helps it to bleed faster or not, but I'd say just persevere...

Have a battery charger to hand just incase.

Did you fill the filter before putting it on?

Hi, no I didn't, but I realised no fuel was coming through so put some diesel into filter via the outlet hose [input to pump] hoping to fill it up. Left bleed screw open also

The fuel is drawn from the tank by the injector pump, so it will need to suck all the air from the filter and pipework before you'll get any diesel at the business end. One trick is to fill the filter with injector cleaner before you refit it. This will not only give the system a good clean, but means you have less air in the system to deal with.

Either whip the filter off and fill with fuel/cleaner, or keep cranking it over and should start eventually.

I removed the whole housing and filled the filter with diesel.

Started pretty immediately. I have never had a problem bleeding my Bongo.

Hi, did that still no start. Put fuel pump inlet hose directly into a pot of diesel appears the pump is not pulling the fuel through. There is air in all my feeds to the injectors, just hope my fuel pump has not gone. Stuck now, fuel cut off solenoid has good feed sounds like its operating, I can't get it out to test as there is to much in the way.

have you removed and cleaned the banjo filter, it site just inside the entry banjo bolt, remove with a cotton bud and check as they can look clean when you look down into it but they can have all sorts of danglies hanging from them into the pump, a bit like a hairdressers P trap

Did that myself the day before the last Red Squirrel Campsite meet in Glencoe. Only in my case I added 12 litres of veggie oil to about 3/4 of a tank of diesel then did not run the engine for long enough to mix them properly. Next morning setting out for the meet the Bongo would not start for the first time in years. Realizing what I had done I called out my local Britannia Rescue mechanic just in case then ran round to the pumps in my Jeep Cherokee for a can of diesel. Just got back home as the mechanic arrived as he had been attending another call out not far away.

Informing the mechanic what I had done we poured the can of diesel into the Bongo together then he adjusted something under the bonnet and pumped the accelerator a few times. The mechanic got the Bongo to burst into life, he did not need to remove the fuel filter or touch the banjo as far as I am aware. No problems with my Bongo since so I wish that I had paid more attention to exactly what he did.

I was thinking the same thing..he probably gave it a Mickey Finn (bad man)

I will be installing a small inline Facet electric fuel pump to act as a tickler if ever the need.

Will carry a spare fuel filter as well.

This might be a good option for adding a priming pump. Looks to be good quality too.

Good idea have ordered the priming pump.

Stupid question it will still start without centre console and gear stick disconnected?

Many thanks for your replies will let u know when I get out there again, don't fancy it in this weather.

It'll be fine without the centre section, but check the gear selector is in park if you've been jiggling things around.
