HELP: My AFT roof is stuck solid and won’t raise

I've just had a large Famous Grouse to improve my spirits. I'll have to find time to try all the stuff in that thread but at least its given me some hope. Amazing too to read my posts from only June 2009 and to have virtually no recollection of any of it The joys of advancing years and failing memory (oh and 13k+ posts ).

I'll have to think carefully about what I store up there in future if it has contributed

Well so far I have:

• Pulled contents out of roof
• Unzipped tent and flysheet so I could feel mechanism as best as possible - can't feel anything fouling though its v. hard to tell
• Checked both fuses. I know I got the right ones as when each is pulled out, the locking action falls silent. Both fuses are fine
• Tried strapping the roof down and using the switch
• Tried checking after using the lock/cancel switch

...but nothing produces a result. Can't think of owt else to try. I've read the thread that Geoff pointed me too thoroughly and I'm sure the answer is in there somewhere, but pulling out all the headlining (and all the other stuff that needs doing) in a car I need for Hill of Oaks shortly and for daily commuting, when I have no spare time, is probably more than I can manage. Also I've no idea how to remove headlining etc. without damaging it. So I think I'd better start calling the Bongo specialists to see if they reckon to be able to fix it. Could do without the cost but I can't be driving an AFT without an AFT Does anyone happen to know if the likes of Wheelquick or Adrian in Bury will look at this kind of specialist problem?

I've got my headlining out ATM Mike, I can have a look tomorrow if you want & see if there's anything that looks useful?
Not too difficult to take it out, but time consuming, all the plastic trim/side panels needs to come out to reveal the edge of the headlining all the way around, I had all mine out anyway, then the beading around the hatch jusy pulls off & you can then see thin metal bits crimped over the edge of the hatch that just need peeling back to release it, there are a few plastic rivets that need removing then I think it just drops out.

keep trying Mike something must free it up - hope you get it up soon as the weather is set to stay good and you will miss sooo much camping time!!!!!

Have you checked the second fuse ?

There are two fuses which might stop the motors running;

The first one is middle row 4th from left, 30 amp
The second one is middle row 2nd from left, 15 Amp

If both have blown then I would want to find out why !

oppisite problem to you but might help!!!! cannot get it down!!!!

After reading the whole saga Mike, I wonder if you have checked out the aft control Unit ( only possible it would seem if your Bongo is unconverted). Located inside the rear drivers side panel. PM sent.

Well I phoned Adrian in Bury and booked the old girl in for 12 May. If I can fix it before then, I can call him and cancell the appt. What a nice guy he is - wanted to start talking me through what to do but I stopped him as time is money for him and I dont' want to impose. truth is that although I now have some more ideas I can try, I don't relish trying to do this on my own and far from help if things go wrong, so car is out of action. The Bongo has been (and still is) outstanding on overall reliability and it's probably not a bad idea to have the roof system looked over and fettled by an expert anyway (Adrian sounds like he's dealt with a few similar AFT problems before). I will be p*ssed off though if it turns out the problem is simply that I didn't check carefully when retracting the roof and caught tent material in the runners, jamming them. Hoping I may be able to assit him with the work and learn about the mysteries of the AFT mechanism in case anything happens again.

Fingers crossed he can fix it
