Fascinating find - amazing whats out there! What a curious advert - they don't explain how to make it work (wiring etc.) and it sounds like it sticks over the existing glass (?). Also, they stress its plain glass (so it is much use?) yet recommend convex glass. And their addressis 'PRAA SANDS, United Kingdom' - where's that!?!?!

I wonder what exactly the product is, and how it works

Its flat but by using convex you can get a wider field of view, so they recommend that. I think my existing are flat tbh

And I think it fits on the plastic backing that is attached to the mirror, thats why you have to make sure all the old glass/adhesive/grease etc is removed, as for wiring they normally have two wires or two spade connectors on the back that you connect your existing wires to, but any 12v supply should work fine along as you switch and fuse it

Mmmmm - sounds quite handy then. If only I could summon up energy to sort the wiring, I'd be v. tempted.

But seriously, I'd love heated wing mirrors but I'm all out of enthusiasm for Bongo fettling just now! Out of interest, how would the wiring scheme work? I like the idea of using them with the rear screen defrost (as BDC mentions) as that should cover most contingencies (albeit that it obliges to me have high current drain from doing rear window even if its only mirrors I want defrosted) and keeps wiring/switch work down by using existing. Could a positive just be taken from the back of the switch or would that then not be fused (I'm guessing current demand for the mirrors will be low so no serious issues there). And could a reliable earth be got from the door in order to avoid having to run a +ve and -ve wire through what might be a narrow channel into the window mechanism?

Must admit I only found this little gem that some mirrors are heated at weekend when BDC pointed it out to me.As I dont tend to suffer from steamy windows I dont tend to use my heated rear screen so I cant vouch that mine has them or not.Im sure there will be a few frosty nights to come yet to find out though!!

Firstly because although not difficult, it is unlikely to be simple!

Secondly there was not a sign of ice on them when I folded them out this morning. The windsceen was solid with ice but, oddly, the other windows which all have solar film inside them were not and didn't even need a once over with the rubber blade.

There is definitely an advantage to turning the mirrors inwards in addition to the obvious damage limitation aspect.

I wonder if those silly mirrors on prestige Kraut Kars that twist upwards get iced? They will of course be heated as standard in that market.

Like you Frank, these days I always fold my mirrors when parked. Having had a pair go flaky after being wrenched I prefer to reduce risk of that happening again. And kike you, I don't have much of an issue with them icing up. Heated mirrors would be nice, but its not a 'killer app' for me.
