Pinhole Leak

I discovered a little leaky hose today so before I sorted it (temporarily with amalgam hose tape) I thought Id take a few piccies so that new Bongo owners know what to look for and how hard a spot such a small leak is.Even though this is so small it still emptied about 15mm of coolant from the expansion tank in the time the Bongo took to cool off, think about it a few small journeys without a coolant alarm fitted and not spotting this was happening and there is potential for problems and costly outlay with the potential Bongo nightmare an overheat!
Image

My Coolant alarm didnt go off I didnt give it chance to as I regularly check round the hoses and pipes for leaks,I am hoping that by posting this up that peeps know what to look for as the flow of coolant was so fine I had great difficulty seeing it at all.Amazing that such a small leak can shift so much liquid in such a short time!

Remember Peeps "Check your pipes and hoses" and as another precaution always have a quick look underneath it on the floor a damp patch is a dead giveaway!!

hope some of you find this usefull :D

Well spotted Dabs, is that the hose from the heater return rail to the stat housing under the passy seat? the same as the one that went on Dreamwarriors?

Its the one under the passenger seat that goes from the top metal pipe (where the bleed valve is stored) on the outside toward the engine block.

Hi, this is most interesting considering my current issue posted as 'cracked cylinder head'. I will now run the car warm and check the hoses myself. (not now obviously, maybe tomorrow)

Isnt it weird I had read that thread the other day and didnt realise it was the very same hose!! I think Mikes problem was up near the block where the heat had affected the rubber and made it very pourus,I had the same two years ago on the other side of the engine under drivers seat with the hose that feeds the rear heater matrix again up near the block it had perished and was literally oozing coolant (that one was a hard spot as it was well hidden behind the starter motor in the dark!! #-o

And isn't it weird how we remember everything about each others Bongos. Even with my lousy memory I could have told you where your last leaking hose problem was - even after all this time.

Very interesting to get a pic. of a pinhole leak in action. Like jaylee, I shall now have a restless night punctuated with unpleasant dreams - thanks Dabs

Got a call from Dabs ,just need a little help he said, to stop the pinprick from leaking until i get a new hose fitted.
We used self amalgamating tape to bind the hose, that should be OK as a temporary fix till the new hose gets fitted. It might be worth getting a roll and putting in your bongo toolbox for emergencies.
for anyone who has never heard or knows how to use the tape #-o have a look at the link below.

another one to look at.

http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/105 ... _Tape.html

seen this product, couldnt believe how you could just wrap it round a pipe leaking at 3 bar and it stopped the water flow.
