I'M BACK - animation duly modified. Even got bleed tube on.

Getting there, I can understand the limits of 2D pics...........but.................. :

Tried a 3D version but does it show things better or make it more understandable? Not convinced.

i thought you coudnt improve on this much steve,but you have in my opinion it is easier to follow and locate the components etc.
just needs tidying up around the top hose outlet to rad,and the heater flow to the stat is a bit unclear .
i dont think one is better than the other though,it depends what you want to do,and how much info your after!!

Agree about ease of locating stuff physically, but it looses on the flow around the engine

I think both diagrams should be used together, it makes sense using both, they compliment one another.

I assume your cad program allows you to rotate your 3D design as all we are getting is a 2D rendition.....

I agree with DBO, they both work for me but I use ProDesktop for 3D modelling so used to 'looking' through to the other side.

Hate to do a "me too" but these diagrams are brilliant. Also highlights how much "high points" there are that could trap air... which I was pondering a lot last night as I replaced the loooong hot pipe down the drivers side that goes between the two heater matrixii. (Boy that was a pig mostly because of the hidden fixing up and behind the air feeder box and the shere number of bends in the thing - but big thanks to AndyA again for splendid breaker service )

Which is why the Bongo uses the De-gas tank set up...... so it continuously self bleeds when in operation.....

The De-Gas tank (expansion tank as we have called it) has chambers inside to act like a swirl pot to pressurise the coolant from the Radiator hot tank then forcing any air ........(that forms in the cooling system during hot/cold cycles and by cavitation at the water pump)...... out and then to feed back into the system via the heaters and thermostat bypass feed circuits.....

That makes a lot of sense Mike, and bears out my experiences of bongo bleeding... The only examples i've had that have been a biatch to bleed are the bongo's that have taken on gallons of air, dodgey stats, or imminent head gasket failiure, or all of the previous symptoms!

At it again!!!!
Having gained experience and learned a few things about the graphics side of things, I did this cross section through a Mazda thermostat. As always, it is accurate - it has to be or it would be a pointless excercise. Labels will be added to show the various components and their function.
Not sure about the blue background though - any comments/suggestions?
Ultimately, my intention (if the diagram is clear enough) is to put the stat into the housing and animate the whole thing so we can see how it operates.

Having cut up most bits in the Bongo cooling system, in 2 weeks I will be cutting a cylinder head open to see what the internals are like.
What I could do with before I put the knife in are suggestions as to where to make the cuts. I will only get one shot at this and would like to get it right.
Any suggestions?
Does anyone have (or can get) pics of a cylinder head viewed from all directions?
