Bongo Fury

Hi new to site so if i do anything wrong please tell me. I have a diesel 4x4 bongo that when it comes to any hill there seems to be a lack of power. I have changed the fuel, oil and air filters but it did not seem to make a difference. Can anybody help

lack of power, can you be more specific? do you get any smoke when you drive hard? what economy are you getting? does the car pull once it gets to a certain rev range?

What year is the bongo too?
Have you checked/cleaned the banjo filter on the top of the fuel pump & make sure the small vacuum hose is connected between the air intake elbow & the fuel pump. Check there are no restrictions on the air inlet (palastic bags/bottles have been known to block the inlet by the starter battery.

Or this come loose...??

I had this hose come loose, which lost me a lot of power...



The vertical one on the front (Far right.) that heads down to the inter-cooler...

Worth a look, see if nothings come adrift!

Thanks for the replies, when driving on the flat it will cruise along nice but dies at the hills. will check that banjo filter not had it long to work out fuel economy and there is no major smoke coming out or the back

Sorry its n reg. I did have two wheel drive one that flew along is it because its 4 x 4.

It could be to do with the transfer box/viscous coupling I guess if there's an issue with it - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=50977, but I'd be looking at fuel & air delivery first, then any mechanical "hindrances" such as binding brakes (are they getting hot?), etc.

What does the vacum unit on top of the turbo do and how far does the bar supposedc to move coz mine does not move that far.

Is there a cat on these bongos or could the exhaust be blocked.

Don't think there should be a vacuum going to the wastegate actuator? May be wrong though.
Just a thought, you haven't got the cold start set up have you? ie twin starter batteries, switch with an engine on by the drivers right knee that operates a flap in the exhaust under the passy seat - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html
If so this has been known to jam & cause issues, could be a restriction in the exhaust, it has been known for baffles to come loose in the silencer.

Cleaned banjo filter all ok the bar that operates the flap on the turbo does not move much is it supposed to. All wheels checked and running fine. Seems like the turbo is working but not at full capacity.

I must admit I've not really taken much notice of the movement of the wastegate actuator, but the turbo doesn't kick in til @2000rpm, I thought the wastegate actuator was supposed to divert exhaust gasses to prevent overpressure?

Did you check if yours is the winterpack model?

No its not the winter pack no switch by drivers knee. I am bit stuck now tried all this suggusted but still no joy. I think it has had cruise control fitted as a after market could this cause any problems.
