Replacement gearbox

Post by hatris » Tue Jun 03, 2008 4:23 pm

Hi Wheelquick have our bongo and have asked us to locate a gear box and price it up. Its not deffinite that it is the gearbox, could be a drive plate. Any ideas where to look? Also would ask for advice on whether to wait and get a new one from Japan or just source the nearest. Many thanks for any help. hatris

Hatris.........if they mean the driveplate for the torque convertor then that can be checked with the gearbox in place and therefore a decision could be made as to whether the fault is the driveplate or the gearbox,

Item number 19 - 217 in the lushprojects page http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/1R10841.gif is an inspection plate. When removed you can then access the torque convertor. If the torque convertor revolves by hand then the driveplate (number 19 - 020) is broken.

I would expect a garage like Wheelquick to know that kind of basic mechanics stuff

Hi dandywarhol, I wouldn't know, but wheelquick are bringing in a gearbox chap to sort it, which is why they only suggested finding out were we might lay our hands on a gearbox. Can you help with a question. When I rang partsplaza they asked for the year and if it was 4x4 and if it was a new shape bongo. Does this mean the one on ebay would not be suitable? Thank you for your help. Really apreciate it. Trisha

Hi dream guage never gave any more trouble and it went in for a service and Mike said it could have been we let the coolant drop a bit. No problems with the engine though. Seems odd we never had any trouble with it previous. Mike does York have any statics? If we weren't so old we would come and sleep in the awning.
