alloys

Post by Colin H F » Sat Sep 19, 2009 1:47 pm

As my tyres are looking a bit worse for wear (cracking rubber) I was thinking of upgrading to 17" alloys, as mine was originally an 8 seater `99 tintop MPV before conversion, are the wheels the same as a " Bongo " ? Colin

As it is a "Bongo" yes - they are all Bongos freetop or not, it doesn't have to have a freetop to be a Bongo.

I still have 15" wheels on my Bongo. From your post I beieve that you want to know if the wheels used on the tin top are the same as those used on the Aft, I would think so but you have to be careful as not all 17" wheels are suitable. Plenty of info about choosing the correct type of wheels and tyres in the search facility.

Living in Liverpool why not go to Wheelquick in Wigan, the two Mikes will sort you out at a competitive price and you will have the peace of mind that your Bongo is shod with the correct wheels and tyres.

Any wheel that will fit an Aft will fit a Tintop - there is no difference in the running gear.
SFAIK a 4WD tintop is the same mechanically as a 4WD Aft and a 2WD tintop is the same mechanically as a 2WD Aft - the roof is the only real difference.

Mike at Wheelquick sold me a second hand set of alloys (complete with new tyres) when I wrecked one of my original alloys just before I was due to have my tyres replaced. Give him a bell you may be lucky.

Hi Colin, a little birdy tells me that there are some VERY special deals coming up on 17" bongo alloy wheels very soon indeed! It may be worth your while to make that call! Tell Mike Jnr that i sent ya... he'll know which wheels you are on about then.

I phoned wheel quick too for a quote on some replacement alloys. I foolishly drove my bongo into a small wall, i thought i'd got away with it, but my mechanic Andy Parson's told me i'd damaged the wheels because the wheelstuds had stretched? Mike at Wheel quick said he may be able to post me a second hand set of alloys, and replacement wheelstuds too! That would be great as i'm planning on driving the bongo to visit my sister in Newcastle under lyme, that's where i used to live when i drew up blueprints for the new housing estate (as was) there in the 1970's.

I asked Mike about the airbag suspension i have fitted on my other car (a Ssang Yong Musso),I wonder if i could get some kind of air bag suspension fitted to the rear of my bongo, as that bottoms out quite a bit over the bumpy roads near where my sister lives.

Once i've solved the problem with my leisure battery not charging, i'll look into the suspension problems i suffer. Thankfully i still have contacts with a friend of mine called Colin who still works for the Exide factory, he said that he could get me a replacement battery seeing as i used to work there designing the caps that cover the individual cells.

You can just use a 15" steel, just make sure the tyre size is the right size to give the same rolling diameter.
Ditch the skinny anyway - pretty useless, apart from the fact it's probably past it's use by date, even in brand new condition it's only recommended to do a max of 50 miles at 50mph.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Been looking on ebay and some firms state all nessessary fittings supplied, does this mean they are not manufactured specifically for the bongo but can be adapted with the fittings :?: :?:
