Auto Gearbox 'S' & 'L'

Post by mcbainia » Tue Mar 02, 2010 6:20 pm

Evening.

Just curious as to what the S & L settings do on the Auto Gearbox ? On my DSG Gearbox on my Golf, the S stands for Sport mode which will increase your revs to the Red-line and drinks twice as much petrol.....is this the same as the Bongo ? As for the 'L', i'm guessing this is for towing ?

Also, the Hold button on the gear stick ? Other than lighting up 'HOLD' on the dash, what does this do ?

Regards,

To quote from the handbook S= for driving down hills use this gear as when an engine break is nessessary. the gears will change automatically between 1st and 3rd in response to the vehicle speed speed
L= use this gear when an extremely strong engine brake is nessessary the gears will change automatically between 1st and 2nd in response to the vehicle speed.

Hold drops it down a gear & holds it there
In D held in 2nd & 3rd
In S held in 2nd
In L held in 1st
Can be used for engine braking or traction as can S & L on their own.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

HOLD button also handy for short-shifting up on full throttle - saves revving the guts out of it. :D

Judicious use of S & L combined with using the hold button makes the Bongo superb in snow, take it somewhere where you have some space & just have a play with it, you can't break it as the electronics will prevent you doing any harm.

DSG eh? Great box to drive, fabulous (if very old) concept made useable by modern electronics. Brilliant. Not quite so when they need fixing . . .   [-o< [-o<
