Have I broken my handbrake??

Post by Scott & Gillian » Thu Apr 15, 2010 1:45 pm

I was only playing with it a bit and the button sort of pinged off
Now the handbrake doesn't erm, brake and the button doesn't work.
Could someone please tell me how to fix it??

Perhaps this should be in the Breaking Bongos section

Wow - what an unusual thing to happen. I reckon its either find the bits and try to reassemble them or else PM ebygum32 or tonic as they are both breaking Bongos and might sell you one.

My mother always told me that If you played with it too much it would fall off, guess she was right

Apart from pulling it all apart and trying to repair it the best option would be to replace but not having done one I havent a clue where to start sorry #-o

If it's not broken, try taking the plastic cover off and then relocate it in the hole.
Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth

I'd take off the trim which you remove to get the seats up, then come at it from the back.

I recon you could remove the carpet and investigate, not sure if the bit which has come out is held in by the trim at the front, or a circlip, or similar, towards the rear.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Panic over!
I undid the trim and found that the other end of the rod - that the button screws in to, had jumped out of the ratchety bit!
Bit fiddly getting it back in place though it was more a matter of luck than skill I think!
