Running out of ideas

Post by Biderman » Mon May 24, 2010 7:34 pm

Hi all,

I need help!

I changed the timing belt and screwed up, broke a rocker and fixed it, double and tripple checked the belt alignment, but the car would not start without drugs (easy start) and then smoked like a Parisian whore (white smoke).

I wipped off the cylinder head, anmd all was good, refitted it, compression tested it (again all good), but still the same problem.

The mark on the flywheel lines up with the mark as does the one on the front pulley and the pump.

To me it has to be the timing is out, but I want to understand how so I know there is not an underlying problem and can fix the problem.

Any ideas....pleeeese.

My head hurts I have thought about it so much.

Cheers,

Steve.

Not much in the way of creative solutions from me I'm afraid, unless its something really simple like the plug leads being mixed up somehow . . . Happened to me once - a great relief when sorted though.

There is a Bongo Friendly garage in South Croydon on the list in the Members Area that may be worth a call too, they've had a decent reputation in the past . . . . .

There will no doubt be Them Wot Know along shortly to offer a variety of possible solutions though.

Best of luck with it.

Sorry, should have said it is a diesel.

When it is started it ticks over beautifully, just smokes (all engine speeds and does not clear) and knocks on acceleration - definitely a timing issue.

sounds like fuel pump timing could be out?

Was talking to Mike at wheelquick on Sunday and he was telling me that every fuel pump has to be calibrated (timing as Kirsty said) to the engine its fitted to.
Lost without my Bongo.

The pump should only need recalibrated if it was removed from the engine or the timing gear has been disturbed - the pump is gear driven off the crank
