speedo problem 2.0 ltr

Post by bena » Wed Jul 07, 2010 9:33 am

I have a 2004 (53) 2.0 and my speedometer has stopped working and further miles are not been clocked, I have a chip installed to convert to mph. I checked on the the site for problems with the speedometer and read to check the cable coupling which I have done but could not find any mechanical cable coupling in the gear box, do you know if this vehicle has an electronic pick up from the gear box or the wheels to operate the speedo.

All the Bongo's use an electronic speed sensor, there is no mechanical coupling involved. The most common fault is that added converter chip fails, this can also cause other apparent faults as the converted signal is sent to the ECU to handle gear changes etc.

There was a recent thread with photo's showing which wires need to be bypassed to get it functioning again in Kms, or replace the chip or replace the console with one designed for MpH they are available.

most fit the chip behind the clocks, some old school fit them at the gearbox, personally, i always try n fit after market kit inside the vehicle where its dry n warm, numerous places sell chips, 321 use NCS Systems, but they're not the cheapest. before you lay out the money, take a look and m,ake sure your chip is connected properly and you dont just have a loose connection.
