4wd would be good with that much power especially with launch control

Could well be that the manifold that has a broken stud and started to warp, easy to check its normally the no 1 stud that you can see, also another tip to see if its the manifold thats leaking is to squirt some washing up liquid around the endge of the manifold, the side that attaches to the head, and start it up, if it starts to bubble then you have a broken stud and a warped exhaust manifold.

Very common fault, only noticable sound wise on start up untill it starts to warm up, then it expands and closes up, worth checking anyhow

Could be nothing at all. The TM2 low coolant alarm can be wired to also warn of low oil pressure. Mine is and sounds exactly like your problem. A warning high pitched noise on start up, decreasing and stopping as the oil pressure rises to normal.

Its really irritating, but when I fitted mine I had just blown up an engine on a Smart car, a catastrophic problem they are prone to, but an oil warning light coming on after the event was not much use. So any any extra seemed a good idea.

I find that noise a pain as well...I put a simple switch in the "orange" wire and I only switch it on once the oil light has gone out.

I don't belive the V6 suffers from this problem....never heard of it happening.

off the top of my head I dont recall hearing of a V6 with a manifold problem either, could even be the exhaust thats not tight? (against the manifold or in on one of the joints) worth checking anyhow

Hi

Check the hoses to the carbon canister and the solonoid that controls that, sometimes these can be hard and or loose, and as you accelerate in gear they leak and you get a squeal. Canister and solonoid under passenger seat on the chassis rail. Can only test it in gear which is a pain.

What does a "carbon canister" do and what does it do it for ??

I think its part of the EGR on the V6 see here
http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html
its the canister 13-970

What does it do not totally certain ! I assume its to help clean up the exhaust gas before its fed back, but I would thought it would either need to be purged from time to time or replaced, but I have never seen any reference to replacment on any schedule, so maybe it is purged guess we will have to study the diagram above more closely and work out just what happens - Oh another coolant system discussion perhaps ;-)

Could the cannister have something to do with fuel vapours? I think it also has a return pipe to the fuel tank. Wonder what the effect would be of simply unplugging the electrical connection to disable it. Probably not a good idea but is it really needed?

I recall cheffy has or had an issue with a relay or something electrical clicking in his one.

Found something here about it under EVAP:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_emissions_control

Info on the same on Lexus car:

http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ ... 25886.html

FUEL EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM (EVAP)
Evaporative emissions system is designed to prevent fuel
vapor from entering atmosphere. Fuel system is completely sealed and
vented only through a carbon canister. System consists of
pressure/vacuum relief fuel filler cap, rollover valve, charcoal
canister, purge valve and various connecting hoses.
Fuel pressure/vacuum relief filler cap allows excessive tank
pressure to vent. It also allows air into fuel tank if vacuum should
become excessive due to a malfunction in fuel evaporation system. Fuel
tank vapor is vented by a line through rollover valve to charcoal
canister. Rollover valve is located in vent line close to fuel tank.
Valve is designed to prevent fuel spillage if vehicle rolls over.
Valve is open until vehicle is at a 45-degree angle or more from
horizontal position.
Canister Purge Valve
Charcoal canister is filled with activated charcoal. Fuel
vapor from tank is absorbed by charcoal when engine is not running.
When engine is running faster than idle, canister purge valve opens
and fuel vapor is drawn into engine and burned.

Could the cannister have something to do with fuel vapours?
I think it must be, but I'm trying to work out what the function of the pipe 13-971A is at the bottom of the page?
At the "top" end it connects to the "evaporation chamber" 42-590A
but following it down it goes to 39-998 which is on diagram
http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... o=.html#12
the 39-998 appears to be the "Protector sub-frame" ???? Can anybody explain what that does ? As it doesn't appear to connect to anything else as far as the pipe itself is concerned as its part of the Cross member ????

That pretty much covered what it does. Vent pipe goes to inside the cross member common on lots of moderm cars to do this or vent into a chassis rail, somwhere a little vapour can waft off and not drip onto a exhaust manifold etc.
