exterior lights!!

Post by bongo-babe » Tue Jan 25, 2011 12:24 pm

being a super bright spark!!!!!
I was reversing out of a car park, (thankgoodness i had discovered before it was to late had an overhead height bar!) and a very overgrown civil gentleman (fat chav) was beeping at me and saying some not so pleasant english words at me, for me to only discover that i did in fact only have one break light and one reverse light working! well of course i did try to apologise but to no avail he continued to speak in said words.
My question is how many lights should be on etc when i do a light check???

All lights should be available to do their jobs. If you have a side light out at night or one of your brake lights is out at any time the police have a reason to stop you then put you through the mill looking for other faults.

Hi bongo-babe,

Your reversing lights dont need to be working, some cars dont have them and some only have One.
As Tony has said the rest need to be working.
Cheers..

Two brake lights (3 if you've got a rear spoiler), 2 side lights, 2 reversing lights. Mine only has a nearside reversing light, as I converted the offside one to a rear fog lamp.

thanks.
But these are not all working and late last year i had a prob where the tail lights fuse blew out whilst driving home in the dark. i did (god knows how) manage to change the fuses. Now my next question is being a bit of a fluffy girlie girl and have no idea what im doing and as my dad says "get a grown up to do it"! do you think i should change the fuses in the brake and reverse lights? or is it a bulb? as one reverse and one brake is still working? i am wondering if each light has its own fuses or if it is indeed the bulbs or combo of both> (sorry just read this through and now seems really complicated. #-o

Probably just the bulbs, unless any of the front lights aren't working as well - each bulb is not fused separately.

It's an easy job to replace the rear bulbs :D If you lift the tailgate, you'll see a couple of screws on each lamp - just undo these and slide the unit towards the outer edge of the car (you may need to hit it with your hand). Sorry, I can't remember if the tail and brake lights are combined bulbs or separate and, as it's pisitivly possing it down at the moment, I'm not going out to look

you can buy the bulbs any were a local garage should have both

open the tail gate

remove the 2 screws from the light fitting.....x head philips driver

the light unit needs to slide out wards of its 2 clips, might need a wack

dont pull it backwards just to the side or you will break something

now you can remove and replace the bulbs

you will need one for reverse light

and a combined stop and tail
