Mine 4x4 Bongo came over from Japan with 215 R15's on all round. Even some Japanese drivers got a bit pissed of with being unable to rotate the wheels to even out tyre wear.

Hi again,
spoke to a few well 4 to be exact and was told that 95y X/L will be perfectly ok for the bong as these are xtra loading tyres (commercial). The only thing now is will 225 tyres clear when turning?
I await your knowlage>>>>>>

Should be OK for clearance, but do check with your insurance company first - I would imagine that Mazda don't say a load rating of 96 for nothing.janehancox wrote:Hi again,

225's will clear with no problems. I've had 245's on in the past with no clearance issues, and that's with lowered suspension!
The XL 95's will probably be perfectly fine in the real world. There is the offchance though that a really picky insurance company COULD (though not especially likely) back out on honouring a claim should you be involved in an accident, as they will say the tyres weren't fit for purpose or some other evasive excuse.

For example, i ran around with 91 load rated tyres for a couple of years, was i just lucky that they never exploded? (or whatever) Or was they up to the job after all?

Having said that, (seeing as this weight/load rating subject pops up often) I wonder if the load ratings in the mid 90's (when the tyre load ratings were worked out for the bongo) were the same as they are today? In other words, is today's (for example) 95 load rating tyre in 1995 the same strength as, say, a 91 load rating tyre that could be bought today? Who decides what rating equates to what weight? The manufacturer? Or an independent body? Are the ratings recognised and equal throughout the world? Anybody know?

Would you be happy if somebody, blinded by the shine from your Bongo, ran into you and the insurance company opted out
