Can anyone think any where up west coast to take bongo and park on the fringe or dunes of a beach? I have aromantic idea and probably not practicle of parking right on the edge of a beach and setting up an awning etc

Hi! How about Achnahaird bay?? About 20 miles from Ullapool on the Auchiltibuie road. Amazing beach!! Or how about Arisaig on the Mallaig road?? Will look up OS maps for grid refs if you want?

Does Skye count ? http://www.360cities.net/image/tokavaig ... ,0.00,70.0
If you go just a little South of where we parked you can drive onto the beach itself, click the Open Map n the left hand side to see exacty where we were.

On the left of the screen is a Tab marked "Open Map" White on Black, written side ways, its a Google map so you can zoom in/out etc as you like.
Or here is a map with most of the West of Scotland on with a few other possible sites - not all accessible however! http://www.360cities.net/map#lat=57.557 ... 908&zoom=8
Ohh this one looks nice http://www.360cities.net/map#lat=57.557 ... and&zoom=8

Re: park bongo on or near beach west coast
OS maps are a bit low tech these days but I get a buzz from them that I cant get with a GPS!! Achnahaird bay sheet 15 Loch Assynt GR 015135. Mallaig sheet 40 Loch Shiel GR 678918 + south of here. Big Sand sheet 19 Gairloch and Ullapool GR 758785. Firemore sheet 19 GR 818883 (on B8057 north of Poolewe. Honesty box for site/water at local school). Some good sites on Mull - Fidden near the Iona ferry and Calgary bay (free camp). Bongo and awning can be set up at all of these within a stones throw of the beach - depends who else is there/how busy it is. All these are sites,we have also had many overnights at or on beaches, but tend to pitch late/move early when freecamping, sometimes don't even bother to put the roof up let alone the awning. See our photo in the gallery, at Carradale bay near Campbeltown. Machrihanish surf was amazing!! If you are looking at Skye there's a great beach campsite at the end of Glenbrittle.( Have only tented there prebongo.)

It's a lot easier to get to Arisaig these days now that they have finished removing all the single track sections of the road. There is a good two way road all the way to Mallaig now.
