Wanted - long runners

Post by buntytw26 » Wed May 25, 2011 9:43 pm

My new bongo / freda has short runners and I'd like to swap them for long ones so I can roll the seats right back to make the bed. I have a side kitchen unit but the seats behind the driver have been reversed and only go so far back and will not go far enough to let the passenger and driver seat go flat too. I'll be sleeping in the sink at this rate.

Does anyone have a pair for sale or free to a good home (well goodish) and more importantly, how easy is it to change from short to long? Does the body of the van need drilling wholes and channels etc?

PLease help a damsel in distesss :? 8)

Hello, try pm'ing Madmile (Ed) he's a converter of campers & a moderator on the Converting Bongos to Campervans section.

He'll give you the advice you need.. & possibly, may have some long runners...?!!

Nice looking black Freda by the way! :D

The only problem with having the short runners in your bongo, is that there are no fixing points for the long runners. unless you drill and bolt to the floorpan.
Lost without my Bongo.

Loads of info on the forum, try a search on "long and rail" or "fitting and long and rail" .You'll need to drill through the floor to find the already fitted captive nuts underneath, as well as the hole for the locating lug, make sure you get the bolts & the long plastic trims that go with the rails. Some of the bolts can be a bugger to shift too. You'll have to cut the carpet to fit as well, or replace with the carpet that came out of the long rail donor vehicle.
You can cut down the long rail (do a search on "modified and rail") so it's just long enough to allow the seats to go far enough back, much less aggro to fit then, just depends if you think you may need the full length of the rail at any time in the future.
This may help, this was mine after fitting long rails.

It may just be a question of turning the seats round to forward facing position???? Are the seat belts still in place?????

Or move the existing short rails around as per this thread - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... sing+seats rather than just unbolting the seat & turning it around.

OMG.......

Where to start. Right search runners while I think about moving the ones I have. My dad, bless him, at 75 will be tasked with the job.npoor bugger. I am not needing the chairs to go all the way back, just back enough to let the front and middle seats go flat ( well as flat as they can be).

How would I know if the short ones are turned already or not? As much as my dad likes to help me out he is not getting any younger or bendier so I'd like to make it as easy as possible for him.

Of course, if there was a willing young nubile body near to Aberdeen we could trade for beer??

If the rails are turned (as described in the link to Daniels thread), I think it would be evident in the fact it would make up the bed with the front seat already
If you're messing about with that seat it is pretty heavy, be careful.

Ah, I see (said the blind man).
I'm in bed now so will read the thread in the morning.

I had a go at making the bed on Sunday but even with the headrests out the backs did not have room to go flat together.

I've bought memory foam anyway so I can makes things a bit comfier.

Don't you just love it when life is simple :?
