Slashed roof tent, belongings, money and telephone stolen

Post by technophobe » Mon Aug 22, 2011 3:09 pm

We were on a campsite in France which was attacked. Nine tents were slashed and lots of electronic gadgets, money and clothing were stolen. Our roof tent was slashed and we lost clothing, a telephone and money.

We are insured and have advised the insurance company of the incident. Our real worry is the roof tent which has been patched with plastic bags and double sided tape.

We are pretty certain that the roof tent cannot be repaired so will indicate this to the insurers. So is there any one out there who could source an new one and fit it? If so we would appreciate an indication of the cost because I am pretty certain the insurers and their repairers will be confused.

Many thanks
Richard & Jo

Gutted to hear of this Richard, I hope you get sorted. As it happens, I'm at WheelQuick tomorrow and will ask about the roof situation.

Hope the rest of your holiday was ok

That's really rough, Richard. Were u still in the north, or were u further south? Campsite unattended?

We are in France shortly, so it would be useful to hear details when you return.

Best wishes, chin up!!

What an awful thing to happen. might be worth cosidering good second hand. AdS have 3 or 4 scrapped AFTs in, don't know whether they have tents intact.

A good inland waterways boatyard would probably know someone who could make or repair one, lots of people get storm covers custom made for open cabins, similar materials and skills. Just an idea.

Thanks for the replies. As I am going to push the insurers for this to be done on the policy. I aim to contact the converters /repairers who advertise on this site.

No luck at WheelQuick, the last AFT they had for breaking they sold the whole roof complete.

Good luck in your search, Bell Hill Motors is probably a good option
