Secondhand LPG tanks are easy to get, but a bit big, so I used a 30 litre vertical portable ( but approved for vehicle installation)tank, with a remote filler. I've just bought a 97 Bongo TDi 4WD, with 63000 miles. looking forward to playing with it.

I must admit i'm intrigued by this! How is the LPG ignited? I thought it needed a spark? I'm very, very interested!

Interesting stuff def - just a small point - the Bongo isn't a TDi, as a VW/Pug/Landrover - it's a good old fashioned low pump pressure turbo diesel.

Thanks, force of habit to call it tdi. The LPG is ignited by the diesel ignition, the two fuels are combined, not as in a petrol substitute system. The LPG catalyses unburnt fuel, as much as 20% in some engines. 28 litres of LPG lasts me almost 1000miles.

Be interesting to see how much difference there is in intake temps before & after cleaning the standard intercooler & pipework, & maybe even with the egr blanked or left as is (working or not?), before looking at bigger intercoolers.

I'm just about in a position to do something along these lines, as I've got a marginally oiled intercooler that I was planning to leave without flushing and am going to blank EGR and clean inlet manifold in the next week or so. I've got a handful of temperature sensors, too. I might put the sensors in place and get data from the 'dirty' intercooler and put those figures up here when I go and run in the new oil/ATF.

Ideally, I'll get two temperature sensors in under the rubber hose connecting the intercooler to the steel pipes, ensuring I've still got a good air seal. Not sure where I'll get the sensor positioned to measure temperature after the EGR comes in, though.

Any idea what's happened to that post? Apparently, I'm not allowed to view it now. IIRC it had info about someone who had fitted a larger intercooler, dimensions, etc (i.e. all the hard work!)

Or should we just clean out all the dead flies etc to restore through flow?

Anyone used that exhaust wrap stuff?

Would it help the turbo spin up more easily?
