NE Sensor / Crankshaft position sensor

Post by greensyke » Thu Mar 15, 2012 8:12 pm

Hi all,

Wondered if any of you knowledgable people can help. I have the same problem as detailed in the thread below whereby the rev counter occasionally drops to zero & flashing hold light. If I wiggle the NE sensor when it's in this state the rev counter jumps into life but always seems to fail again if I let go. I've removed it, cleaned it up and checked the wiring to it with no luck.

I'm hoping to find a replacement but I'm confused. Is it an NE sensor (Part WLA118221C) or is it a Pulse generator (Part WLO120H10B) as in the thread below?, or are they the same?

http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... +generator

Does anyone have any experience of buying this part and any ideas where I can get one either new or used?

very very grateful for any replies.

It depends on the version of the vehicle the if you look at this version http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... no=.html#2
you will see that the similar part has the first Part Number mentioned for (SGEW 400001) Model year>09.1999 its also used on (SGEW 500001) Model year>09.2001
whilst the older vehicles pre 09.1999 use the Pulse Generator.
If you look thru the 4 versions (use the sorted by drawing number coloumn) on sheet 6600 for the diesel you will see the changes over the years http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/

assuming thats your car (aqua) in the avatar then you have an early shaped vehicle and the sensor is located just in front of the fuel pump drivers side, the part listed as WL0120H10B 20H10 GENERATOR,PULSE, is the correct part but i think you'll find they're both the same, faults usually occur with them once the car warms up and they become erratic, causing hold light/gearbox problems.

Thanks for the info guys. I've tried calling a few breakers but no-one seems to have the part. Looks like I'll have to fork out for a new one from Mazda unless anyone else can suggest a source.

Great panoramic photo's on your website Geoff ...... We lived in Worthing for 13 years through the 80's & 90's so was lovely to see the old place again.

I've got a spare engine in the garage (as you do) & I'll see if I can remove the sensor in the next few days.

No home should be without one :)

Anyway, here's where the sensor lives:

& this is it after removal (which is quite tricky as it's a snug fit):
