Fuel consumption on lpg

Filled up with lpg £42 and managed to do 410k on a 60 ltr tank,(without a stop) think about 21mpg from my V6 haven't checked petrol consumption, as I run on lpg as much as I can. Have only had the van 2 weeks can I expect better mpg from a tank of petrol if I ever have to run on it?

Generally, litre for litre, LPG will get you 80% of the distance of petrol. While LPG is cheaper per litre, you would consume less fuel running on petrol.

If I put £40.00 to £45.00 of lpg in my bongo I can expect around 155m in town and 245m on a run. Pumping my tyres up to 40psi made a huge difference to the consumption to.
so 3-5 miles per litre

21 mpg sound about right.get that on my v6.

best i have got is 24mpg on a good run. varies quite a bit as never seem to get the same amount in tank

pay 64.9 to 70p a litre depending on where i fill up

Getting a 85L LPG Tank fitted. At 80% filling capacity should give me a max capacity of 68L of gas.

Previously on our former bongo we were getting 320 to 350kms on motorway runs driving at approx 70/75mph. Tank size was 76L allowing approx 56L max LPG to be filled.

That was with a full side conversion, camper load, 2 adults, 2 tots and an after market roof punching the air.

So, I'm very interested to see what the extra 10/12L will be like at the same speeds and per and post conversion in September.

Good figures, what speed were the 410km ranges driven at?

I was driving to Inverness on the A9 a mixture of dual carrageway and singe lane road with quite a lot of hills and inclines, on the way tried to do a constant 60mph, my local garage does lpg at £0.80p per litre the cheapest around my area is £0.71p.

We had our bongo converted to lpg this summer and although we have not actually measured mpg we have found that a trip to Edinburgh from Perth is certainly a great deal cheaper.

What sort of price are you paying for lpg, cheapest I can find is £0.71.9 in musselburgh.

One of my dreams, which will never become reality, is to see the end of MPG as a notation.

Can nobody see the irony that we haven't bought fuel by the gallon for donkey's years and most Bongos have an odometer reading kilometres? Even though America still uses gallons they are not the same measurement so what is the point of us hanging on grimly to them? They don't even have gallons in New Zealand where boat loads of die hard metric martyr Brits went to escape from the evil of change.

With fuel prices being a major factor, what really matters is how much it costs to travel (say) 100 km.

The efficiency of engine and driving style matter, but so does where you can get fuel cheaper than somewhere else.

Currently, for me with a diesel, it's sunflower oil at £10 for 10 litres at Tesco.

I'm in East Lothian too. Where are you getting LPG locally? I usually go to Musselburgh, last time I was there it was 67p.

Cheapest LPG in Scotland is at ASDA in Kirckaldy in fife. I always stop in after seeing Bongo Bill, his workshop is right around the corner from it. Last time I filled up there, 62p It's the only Asda I know of that sells LPG

I've noticed a Bongo on the way in to Haddington coming from Aberlady, would that be yours by any chance?

Dreghorn is usually cheaper than Mussleburgh, don't know why because it's also Shell

I live in Reading Nd at local Calor Gas depot it is 68p a litre. I get 22 to 23 miles a gallon which equates to 44 to 46 in petrol cost terms. Converting to LPG is a no brainer!

So if petrol was £1 per litre it would get you 20% further than a litre of 20p cheaper gas from Edinburgh Road.

Next question. What extra distance will my £1 litre sunflower oil give me over a litre of petrol? In the appropriate engine, of course!

Rhetorical question. Will gas or petrol give me the low revving load lugging power of the diesel Bongo?
