fitting electric window switch

Post by BongoExplorer » Wed Jul 17, 2013 10:08 am

Hi,

I've just fitted a new window switch in the drivers door. The previous one burnt out, emitting lots of smoke in the process. My wife wife was driving and called the AA who came and disconnected the old switch.

Having bought a new switch, I've plugged in the obvious cable, and the windows now work again. However, operating the driver's side window also now causes a clicking in the door handle / and lock. It seems I've somehow inadvertantly connected in the lock mechanism, but I can't see how!

Any help appreciated!

Have a look at the loom between the door & the body for broken or frayed wires...
I'm thinking you may have a "short" between the window & CL circuit?? Which may have initially knackerd the switch.

ok, will do, thanks.

By the way, there were two loose looms/cables near the window switch. One fitted into the windwo switch and the other fits into something else nearby. Forgive the silly question, but what is this other one?

Thanks...

The only thing i can think off is the manual CL loom...? From memory it cuts across the middle of the door behind the trim.

When you check the door loom look for breaks in the V where it is tied to the door hinge & where the loom goes into the wing under the sheathed grommet...

Do you have a remote CL fitted..? Possibly aftermarket??

Hi,
I worked out what the problem was!
It's actually simpler than I'd imagined. The physical mechanism that winds the window up and down was actuallyy colliding with the wire pull that connects the door handle to the lock.
I was imagining some electrical connection, but it was purely mechanical.
Thanks for your help!
