White smoke

Post by Scottyms » Tue Feb 11, 2014 9:01 pm

Hello fellow Bongonauts,

I'm having problems with my Bongo. Does anyone know of any local specialists close to Inverness please?
Here is the story so far...
1) Normally the temp gauge doesn't register but it came to life one day and the engine overheated.
2) I checked for leaks and found the top hose had split so replaced
3) flushed/ refilled / replaced coolant as per brilliant instructions on clinic pages
4) not sure if I managed to get rid of any air locks but there is now white smoke coming out of exhaust
5) I can see an oil leak also on head gasket but no water.

Difficult to check anything further - took for a quick run and overheated again so now confounded because it might be the head gasket but which is cause and which is effect?

Any suggestions you have would be most welcome please.

Many thanks

2 questions

Petrol or diesel?

And is it "white smoke" or "steam"? - they are not the same thing.

If it really is white smoke (not just steam) and it is from a diesel, it could be a timing problem to do with the cold start device.
