Bongo love taken a small nose dive

Post by conmai » Wed Oct 01, 2014 4:30 pm

Well my Bongo enthusiasm has been mildly tempered today after a visit to the local MOT station, long story short I need the following and would appreciate any suggestions for reasonably priced parts, MOT failure was for the following reasons:

Offside suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint, new suspension arm?
Both sides - Track rod end ball joint dust covers excessively deteriorated so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt

1 advisory of nearside front shock absorber has a light misting of oil...

You can replace the ball joint in the arm. I have done this a couple of times, but the ones I got (eBay) didn't last long.

I have just fitted a pair of "pattern part" front arms from the BF shop. Time will tell if they have a lifespan like the originals or the ebay balljoints!

About £100 per side for the pattern part arms, and simple to fit.

Trackrod ends are also available in the BF shop, and are simple to replace. IIRC Ian also sells the cover boots on their own.

That's not a bad fail at all
Quite common parts to wear
Cheap and easy to replace
Shocker can be a bit of a pain if front one I believe
Gas safe heating engineer / plumber if you need any advice just shout.
