Hi Techies,
Somehow I've punctured the automatic transmission sump on our P reg V6 2.5 petrol Bongo.
It is quite a nasty dent/tear on the underside toward the back and all the oil has escaped. Our garage is not sure what to do... Is this oil pan replaceable?
Otherwise, is it feasible to consider welding as an option? A replacement gearbox would seem a step too far... $$$!
Any advice?

Re: V6 automatic gearbox puncture
Ouch. It's a steel sump so should be fairly easy to weld by someone with the skills and welding gear. It could also potentially be brazed as it doesn't need much strength.
Undo all the bolts and carefully prise it away from the gearbox so as not to damage the gasket. Remove the magnet, clean all the gunge off and then repair the damage. Note: if you have any ATF left, use an oil extractor pump such as a Pela to suck out as much as you can via the dipstick, otherwise it's very messy when removing the sump. Good luck

Many thanks...
That's good news. At least it is removable, not an integral part of the transmission housing.
Now to find someone with the necessary skills...

Pop your location in your profile and there may be someone local to you with a recommendation. I've found a place in Southampton that take on ad hoc welding jobs for cash. I recently had an alloy aircon pipe blanked off and they did a brilliant job and only charged a few pounds.

Ok, do you want the good news first?
Can you weld it………yes you can………..will it distort…………maybe.
Can you braze it…….. yes you can………..will it distort…………maybe, but less chance.
Can you solder it…… yes you can………..will it distort…………maybe, but not likely.
Can you JB weld it in situ….. yes you can………..will it distort…………no.

Hope this is helpful.

How big is the hole
Piccys pls
Why not make the hole into a sump plug drain point
For future oil changes

Unfortunately it's at the garage so I don't have a photo. From what I could tell sticking my head under the bus, it's a big dent - 10x20cm and I guess there's a tear or hole. The oil didn't pour out so it can't be a massive hole.
Hehe... thanks for the song:) JB weld could well be the perfect solution!
