I've been contemplating using some of those.

But the USB sockets are powered by mains so only available when your on EHU or by running an invertor :-( If you need lots of USB sockets then consider adding these little units from Amazon which run off of 12volts etc. they have 4 outlets with a total capability of 5 Amps;

You can fit them behind the plastic trim etc quite easily, or put them in little boxes as I have for the one in the AFT http://uk.farnell.com/hammond/1550q/enc ... 7-00001003 there are cheaper versions available but I had that one to hand!

Just been reading up on the mains sockets with built in USB and found this which suggests there are some poor quality examples out there: http://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk ... t-outlets/

Not surprised to read that Simon. Much as I love the concept, you can see this happening. Even with good quality, you'd need to be careful about brick dust ingress etc when fitting, not clouting with the Hoover etc. And I can see the buyers surveyor report when you come to sell the house:

"Building will need extensive re-wiring as mains sockets usb ports are to obsolete standard."

#-o :lol:

But seriously, the article is a depressing reminder of how regulation in the market seems to be going down whilst cant over health and safety goes up. I particularly dislike the thought of short lived components being embedded into housing construction.
