Welcome aboard.
You could reverse Bongy near to the door of the tent then use the tailgate for weather protection. Perhaps add a windbreak on the blowy side.
Not completely joined, but easy to use for days out.

That depends on the type of tent opening
Maybe figure of 8 strip
Or gaffa tape

do you think clipping a piece of tarp between the bongo and tent would work?

Don't see why not. As Gasy says, a figure of eight strip and some clips on the tent, perhaps.
I might take it down in high winds.

I've got an army poncho / groundsheet I tiewrap to fixings under aft above side door and have 2 telescopic clothes line props and some guy ropes , works great
You could put other side to tent poles no need for clothes props
But if your tent has the big front door awning type fig 8 would fix that to van side gutters

Roll a pole into tent flap then clip to gutter or hooks under elevating roof.
Always be ready for a Top Up!
