Remote cental locking

Post by sotal » Fri Jul 03, 2015 12:01 am

Having now got the Bongo, I'm finding it pretty amazing. The one thing however that it lacks is remote central locking.

It has key operated central locking but only from the drivers door.

So first - do I just need a remote central locking kit with a single solenoid?

Secondly as an additional thing to make it more fancy - can I make the powerfold mirrors fold in when it is locked and unfold when unlocked?

I fitted the look inside your drivers door as I think you should have a solenoid already
The mirrors can be made to fold if you have the right out puts and know what you are doing

I was guessing I didn't have a solenoid in the drivers door as the central locking only works from the drivers door. If I lock the passenger door the drivers door does not lock.

If you can lock all the doors when you lock the drivers door it must have a solenoid in it.
Also look for remotes that have covers on the buttons as a lot of them are very strong transmitters and I can open mine from the back garden when its parked on the other side of the road so its easy to do it accidentally in your pocket

nope, no solenoid in the drivers door just a switch to tell the doors what to do.
yes you need a single solenoid kit.
yes you can make the power fold work from the remote, just need to tie in to the control line, it's only a positive feed from the switch on the dash. you need a timed relay as the remote unit will most likely burn out if you run the amps you need through it and won't supply the signal for long enough.

Excellent - Thanks, that is what I figured for the solenoid - I will try and find a decent looking kit with a single solenoid.

Just one day in and the lack of remote is driving me mad!

Walked out of door over to the bongo, unlocked drivers door (awkwardly due to 2 large bags in my hands) - walked back round to the other side to put them in the Bongo - walked back round to drivers door to get in. Drove to work, walked round to get bags, walked back round to drivers door to lock the Bongo!

Lots of walking round and round!

Think the remote will be the first job! May leave the powerfold mirrors for now.

Has anyone fitted a solenoid and remote kit?

Just wondering how much work was involved - how tricky was it to wire up? How much is there to do? Is it all in the drivers door?
