V6 with LPG - Wont Start little/no resistance to rotor arm

Post by flossie » Wed Aug 05, 2015 2:30 pm

Whilst overtaking at high revs my Bongo died. I think it made a pop noise but as im partially deaf not entirely sure. Recovered to Discount Trucks (Jerry superb as it was his family bbq at 11pm on a Sat night!).

Fred has started investigating; they have discovered very little resistance to the rotor arm. They are wondering if this is a common issue (with distributor etc). There is compression there. Cambelt is fine. Obviously they will do further investigation over coming days but they are starting to look at this.

Any ideas of a breakers price for the distributor part price please (and new gulp!!)

Many thanks in advance

(PS every cloud - It has a bulging hose caught in the nick of time!!!)

Hi,
Do you mean by little or no resistance at rotor arm that you can rotate it whilst engine is stationary? if so distributor sounds as though it has self destructed internally as it is driven mechanically. So shouldn't be free to rotate.
There have been new Dizzy's (perhaps recons)on a well known auction site recently for £60 mark. So have a look to see if there still up for sale, they did have a number in stock when I last viewed the site recently. If not it will have to be a breakers.
Hope you get it sorted at a reasonable cost. Keep us posted.

Cheers

This seller tends to list distributors for £60: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-BONGO-D ... 41963464c6

The dizzy is driven directly from the end of one of the camshafts so lack of resistance could be a problem there.
