Recommended Fiamma F45s

Post by malc_s » Sun Aug 09, 2015 1:06 pm

After having Bongo for five years finally decided to purchase awning.
Any advice on what is best length to get?

The lengths available seem to be 2.3mtr and 2.6mtr.

I think I would prefer 2.6 but does it project to far over passenger door?

Thankyou
Malcolm

This is my F35 pro which (as I recall) is 250cm long which I think is about right.

This is an F45 (exact length unknown) and in my opinion it sticks out too much:

I agree about the aesthetics of the longer one, but the extra length does gives very useful extra shelter, allowing better under cover access to front and sliding door. It also means you could have more options on eBay and perhaps a better price if it's less sought after by other Bongo (and similar) owners.

When we were looking at lengths for our F45, Hayden had a 3m one that looks much the same as Helen's and he had found that there was vibration from the front section before the bracket by the passenger door, was causing him concern. Hence why we opted for 2.4m, I reckon 2.6m might be a good compromise.

Hello Simon - your F35 Pro brackets are not the usual (recommended) VW T3 brackets. May I ask what they are, please? I'm looking to fit an F35 but would prefer to use something similar to the AVA F45 alternative brackets, made specially for the Bongo, that fit beneath the 'D' brackets on the Bongo roof.
It starts with love for foliage and ends in camouflage...

I fitted the 3 meter one and once I'd fitted decent brackets it was fine....I also had the safari room which was very good. But ... Once you had it all set up you couldn't go anywhere....I ended up with a small caravan....by far the best way to go.

Yes that's the flaw in the philosophy I fear. Geoff makes it work well though - guess it depends what you're planning to get up to and how disciplined you are about not putting lots of junk in the awning space.
