Scottish Bash 2016: Report

Post by Ian » Mon Mar 28, 2016 9:57 am

The first meeting of the year was held at Thurston Manor near Dunbar, East Lothian. Only a small turnout, and only 3 from Scotland, the other 9 intrepid Bongonauts drove up from Englandshire.

Dunbar was a nice place, and a few of us got the bus in on Friday to inspect the harbour and the local hostelries.

There was a weather warning issued for Friday night, and a big storm hit around 2am. By daylight it was clear that things were not as they should be.

Our awning had been ripped to shreds, possessions destroyed or blown away etc. And we were not the only ones. Here's Terry, still in jim-jams, trying to find some clean pants to wear on the long drive home to Worthing.

Which is why any latecomers arriving on Saturday didn't find much evidence of the Bongo meet.....we'd had enough and drove home!

What a shame.... ...after all the planning and organisation for it to end like that.

Just goes to show that Mother Nature is more powerful than the Bongomaster.

Sympathy to all who attended.

It's an area notorious for high winds Ian, 3 lorries have been blown over on the stretch of road between Torness power station and the cement works over the last five weeks, resulting in road closures on the A1.
I was informed by people after posting why so few were on site.
The outwell country road awning you sold us has survived all storms so far, can recommend it for being able to stand up to the most severe weather.

Such a shame when this happens. Happened here in Cornwall too. Tonto has been sheltering the Quechua since Friday night and I haven't had the roof up. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
