Steering universal joint bolt torque

Post by Gripped » Mon Aug 12, 2019 7:01 pm

Hi all

Just adjusted my steering wheel so it's straight. Wondered what the correct bolt torque is for the two 12mm bolts which hold the UJ to the pinion and steering column. My searches of similar vehicles are anything from 18 to 55Nm which seems too high.

(This is the universal joint near the steering rack)

Much obliged in advance !

I should add that they are 12mm headed bolts (not 12mm bolts) they are M8 bolts.

Mazda service manual for the diesel version shows 1.8 - 2.7 kgf.m for the clamp bolts on the steering UJ
