Removing the rear speakers
Hi
I want to remove the offside rear speaker and take it away from the plastic panel, and reinstall it on the side kitchen panel so it's nearer the rock and roll bed (rather than behind the kitchen cupboard).
However I physically cannot get the speaker out of the panel. Someone told me I need to remove the entire panel and then remove the speaker from behind.
Is that right? That's gonna be a horrible job given that I have kitchen in the way.
Any advice welcome.
Olly

Re: Removing the rear speakers
That is correct, the speaker grill and speaker is attached from the rear on plastic spigots spot "welded" down to hold them in place.
Re: Removing the rear speakers
Argh! I've spent too long jammed in to a small space in a hot campervan on even hotter days. Arrghh!
Time to angle grind the panel around the speaker. I'll migrate the entire area.

Re: Removing the rear speakers
Fraid thats not gonna do it either. The speaker is bolted to a frame that in turn is bolted to the vehicle structure. Why not run another wire to relace that speaker wire from the back of the radio znd leave the old speaker in situ.
Re: Removing the rear speakers
Yeah. I guess that's probably the only solution left.
At the moment I'm drowning in cables and half cut pieces of panelling, saws, and general parts.
I only came out to fit a a shelf
Thanks for the help.

Re: Removing the rear speakers
The easy bit is running new speaker wires from the radio, just go over the engine bay and you're done.
If the rear speaker is to be a new one, I would recommend replacing both at the same time, it's relatively straightforward to do, they are a 5 x 7 size, Alpine are cheap for a pair, a little over 20 quid online.

Re: Removing the rear speakers
After my experience with the offside, I'm not even going to touch the nearside one. I'd be happy (ish) with mis-matching speakers.Rickster wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 6:17 pm The easy bit is running new speaker wires from the radio, just go over the engine bay and you're done.

I'm more of a Hi Fi freak if anything, although vehicles will always have crap sound given how metal is the worst material for a speaker enclosure.
The only reason for changing, especially the front speakers, is so it had more treble for the sat nav voice, the old speakers sounded like it was trying to operate in the bath!
Re: Removing the rear speakers
Are the front speakers the same? With the plastic grill being part of the door panel and the speakers bolted in?
Re: Removing the rear speakers
No, they are round with three screws holding them to a plastic frame.
The pic below is one of them.

Thank god! Something that should take too long or cost me the earth.
