Diesel Heater
Hi all
Going to take the plunge and buy/fit it myself. Does anybody have any photos of how they’ve done this, that they’d be willing to email me. Seems a 2kw will fit under the passenger seat?
Thank you
Steve

Re: Diesel Heater
Assuming it’s a diesel you’re fitting it to, there is a members fact sheet all about it for both the older and newer shape diesels. Mine was an old shape 97 r reg
I made a bracket out of 1.5mm aluminium
Fitted heater under passenger seat
I used a t-piece to pick up fuel under drivers seat (there is some talk that this could dry up the seal on the actual fuel pump i think so standpipe could be better into tank but I didn’t have any issues)
Fuel pump mounted on chassis rail under drivers seat, heat out behind center console (no space in mine in rear step due to lighting) and cabin air in passenger footwell. One thing to make sure of is that wiring it up to scratch in terms of thickness, I ran from fuse box in conversion which means a reasonably long run and heater kept detecting low voltage, cut earth from loom to shorten and upgraded to 6mm cable solved issue.
My install was for a Webasto airdrop stc2000 not one of the Chinese ones. Whatever you install would recommended rubber shock mounts for fuel pump and silencers on combustion intake and exhaust. I had to heat shield my air out ducting as it was very close the exhaust manifold
Have the bracket that could help as a template going spare as I sold the van and bought a v6. The v6 has no room for diesel heater in that location, managed to get a tank in it so far but still trying to find the ideal location for heater

Re: Diesel Heater
That’s great, thank you. Didn’t realise there was a factsheets. I’ll have a nosey!
Re: Diesel Heater
My question is regarding running this with the air intake and exhaust in the same space! Would the exhaust coming out of the rear of the unit (opposite end from the intake), be enough distance as to not suck the fumes into the van? Or should I extend the exhaust, making it longer, so further away? Like I said, I’m not the most practical, so thank you for your patience in advance!

Re: Diesel Heater
What's wrong with the 2Kw version ?
8Kw is going to burn down the van, and it will soot up the exhaust if its not run at full level every now and then!

Re: Diesel Heater
Do you happen to have a note of the size of the T-piece for the fuel pickup. I bought a Chinese one last year but not got round to fitting it yet. Hopefully going to do it in the next couple of weeks.cwilliams255 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 9:36 pm

It's currently set up as a garage heater.
I initially bought the 5kw version as there was no difference in price but it was to big to fit in the space under the seat, not without a fair bit of butchering anyway.

Re: Diesel Heater
That would be great if you could measure it. I would have thought 8-5-8 would have been massive.
I will take it off your hands no problem.

OK just started sizing mines up today for installation, Looks like im going to need the 90 degree outlet hood, does anyone know of the genuine Eberspacher parts are interchangeable with the Chinese ones? It doesn't seem to be an option for the Chinese ones.

It's under 'E' for Eberspacher, same install procedure though.

Re: Diesel Heater
Just took the plunge an brought a Chinese diesel heater and mounted it under the passenger seat and have a few questions.
I presume this has to have the heat extracted near the sliding door as anywhere else needs a massive amount of ducting?
Is it okay to take air from under passenger seat and heat this or is taking air from living space essential?
Any pictures of where I should tee into the fuel line?
Where about are you fixing the exhaust?
Many thanks for any advice its greatly appreciated

Re: Diesel Heater
I think you need to keep the air intake from inside the vehicle surely, to avoid the problem of exhaust blowing back under the vehicle and into any intake ?
Re: Diesel Heater
That's a good point, I think it's easy to get a duct down to the passenger's footwell. my main issue is the ducting for heat to get to centre console doesn't seem easy as there is little gap between the engine and underside of the seat.
