Starter motor gen difference

Post by Ebell12 » Sat Sep 30, 2023 2:06 am

Good day all.

Ordered a replacement starter motor off eBay for my 99 diesel. Sadly it looks like I have a 99.5 as the starter motor in the vehicle looks slightly different and on lushprojects the part number is different.

The old one slides in place and looks like it would work. Bolt holes line up and such. Does anyone know if this is the case? I did not install it in time to be able to return it.

Thank you

So the new (?) one looks like it would fit, does it have a reference number, quite often there are identical units made by different companies that have different part numbers. Also your not a "cold" start Northern Japan model are you as they did have a different starter motor but they still fit the same I believe.

Often the starter can be fixed with a repair kit, available pretty cheap off Flea Bay.

Looking back I could have explained myself better. This is what the one I purchased looks like. Half of the gear is covered

This is what the original looks like. Fully exposed gear.

When test fitting it fits in just the same. Just not sure how it matches up internally with that gear half covered. Thanks for the replies!

The half exposed type is a "cold" starter version (12v / 2.2Kw),
whilst the original is the normal style (12v / 2.0Kw);
Both types are listed here on the parts diagrams https://www.lushprojects.com/bongoparts ... Btr.html#6

Thank you! Great news as I am in a very cold climate.
