If you are going away somewhere and don't mind meeting up with other Bongo owners or if you've been somewhere & want to tell us about it & stick up your photos, put the details here.

Hiya Muz, looks like you're remaking the 'odessy'. Personally we prefer avoiding single track lanes where other drivers might not give us passing room for Bongo & trailer. We are forced to use Scotch Corner & the 66, but with the distance involved, it has to be motorway madness.

A lot of those little roads seem to disappear on the map. Wonder where the new SatNav will take us? Plan on showing up on the Friday Mr.M so will be relieved not to be loners. Not much longer now

Dipply-dopplies every time for us, easier for stopping at no notice for a photo or emergency nature-stop.
On the subject of fancy dress, I was thinking of turning up as Sid Snott, to resurrect the "Everett double-glazing" gags of the eighties

I plan to turn up on Friday too despite having to make a long diversion to get past Langholm again. Not just the landslip on the A7 causing me a problems but that the whole town is closed for the day so that the annual common riding festival can take place.
Make a change going south from the quite border roads. Much easier than traveling up from Brentwood in Essex where I used to live until five years ago, the traffic was hell down there. See you all there.
Just remember your hankie Muz!!!!

In one of your earlier posts you were on about a disused mine where it would be possible to park/camp - is that the one marked on the map here (and on the satellite pic)
No sir, on the satellite shot, go to the right of the pub. You can see a track peeling off to the right from the road. Just by the join of the two you can see a circle. - Thats it there.
over the Butter Tubs pass to Thwaite, then to Keld and up to the pub on what looks like a real dipply-dopply road. Can anyone comment on whether this is a wise plan or not
I do that route quite often. Not for the fainthearted.
YOU'LL LOVE IT!!

its almost all single track roads all the way for us
It was so foggy at new year going home we were following the map on the sat nav screen to see where the bends were coming up and which direction they were going - all that with a stud in the tyre from a sheep chewed VW which thankfully we didnt remove until we got home as the tyre went down as soon as we did - certainly wouldnt fancy that journey on a space saver - hopefully it will be a bit clearer this time I,m sure there,s a view to be had up there i,ve just never seen it.

Have a look at Google Earth if you have it. The layout of the area around Tan Hill Inn comes across very clear. You can even see the possible parking places for your Bongo.

A bit of info please?
What is the pitching area like? I have heard we will only be able to stop in the carpark?
Are there any toilet facilities during the night?
A bit more info would be great MM please?

Hi Karl
Well there is the car park and a layby(?) aka a long strip of gravel/mud outside the front of the pub. There is an outside loo at the side of the pub open all night.
The pub usually does a cooked breakfast for non residents but don't rely on it unless booked in advance. I think that they usually expect a small fee for the use of the 'facilities' if you are parking up overnight outside.
The better option in my opinion is the small quarry just across the bridge and about 200yds on the right. It's quieter than parking by the pub but you do need to be self sufficient.
cu at the weekend

I have a toilet tent from my old camping days which I can bring if necessary.

We were wondering about the ground for putting up an awning.
As I do not have an on the road AFT yet, we need extra sleeping facilities for Kirsty.
Will have to see how we go, maybe have to give this one a miss.

Karl, I dont think you will get a awning up not on the car park next to the pub,
But you could park on the carpark and take a small 2 person tent as there is some grass near the car park, New years there were a couple of tents on there,
I dont know about the place up the road as we stayed on the car park.
